What are 'Human Readable URLs'?

Typically, the Kontent CMS will give each page in the CMS a unique URL like http://www.gky.com.au/c/gky?a=sp&pid=1021528969.

However, both human's and search engines seem to like human readable URL's like 'http://www.gky.com.au/kontent/newfeatures' better because they're:

• easier to remember;
• easier to type;
• easier to tell someone over the phone; and
• they provide more information about the destination page (this is where the search engine optimisation (SEO) benefits come in).

There are, however, some problems with human readable URLs. Because the URL now incorporates information on the structure of the website, if you move a page from one location in your website structure to another the URL changes. This is not good if you've published the URL somewhere where you can't change it, or if other websites have deep linked directly to the old URL.

The Kontent CMS has solved this problem by keeping a 'history' of all of the human readable URLs by which a webpage has been known over its entire history. In this way, the Kontent CMS can redirect users seamlessly to the new location of the webpage.
